Sidebar repaired itself?

My father just got a new Dell computer last week. Got it hooked up and
everything was great until the last two days. He called me last night
wanting to know what was wrong w/puter. Said he was unable to connect to
internet. I still have XP (thank goodness by the way it sounds) so I
suggested he call his ISP. He called 20 minutes later saying that there was
a message on puter saying "Windows sidebar has repaired itself". After that,
he was able to get online just fine. Would the sidebar really stop you from
having internet connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No. my best guess would be that the sidebar issue was a symptom of your loss
of connectivity. A lot of the sidebar gadgets provide live content from the
interenet. If they cannot connect to update, Vista would see it as a
problem, and being able to re-establish connection would be seen as having
corrected the problem. I would guess that your internet issue was resolved
and the "repaired" side-bar was simply a result of that. and not the fix. I
would work with your ISP to see if there was a loss of service over that
time.

anything about Vista. Thanks again for your time.
