show hidden files and folders

Hi, I have recently got a new PC which came with Windows XP home, for a long time i have been trying to show hidden files and folders

I have tried two ways which i am used to, but one doesent work and one doesent appear at all.

the first technique ive tried was the, folder options > show hidden files and folders. however in my normal administrator account i cannot get to folder options through the control panel or through the tools menu in a normal folder. however when i run windows in safe mode and chose the hidden administrator account i can get to folder options but the 'show hidden files and folders' option isnt there

The second technique is going in 'Run' and typing "attrib -r -a -s -h E: s/" but this doesnt work either.

If anyone can help me with this i would be very greatfu

From an admin enabled account, a little below 'show hidden files and
folders' is an option to 'hide protected system operating files'. You may
want to uncheck that and see if it's what you wanted.
