Show hidden files doesn't work/.dbxfiles

Searched the forum and although I found the same problem, the solutions
haven't worked for me.

I am trying desperately to find my .dbx files but they are not showing up,
because no matter what I do, the "Show hidden files and folders" and "Hide
protected operating system files (recommended)" keeps getting switched back
to hide. I think this is an issues with a form of conficker.

I seem to have tried everything but still not seeing it. Hope someone can
help. Here is what I tried so far, starting with the obvious ones:

1. Searched *.dbx

2. Ctrlpanel>show hidden/uncheck hide extesions uncheck hide os files>apply
to all>.

3. Looked here: C:\Documents & Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{Bunch numbers & Letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

C:\Documents & Settings\User Name\DOESN'T SHOW LOCAL SETTINGS

4. go to Run -> type regedit 2) now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\ CURRENTVERSION\Explorer\ Advanced\Folder\Hidden 2) now you
can see 2 keys NOHIDDEN and SHOWALL here 3) Set the CheckedValue of NOHIDDEN
to 0 and CheckedValue of SHOWALL to 1 4) now try to select show hidden files
and folders. This should show your hidden files and folders.

Still doesn't help and keeps re-switching back to hide the folders. This
time Both "Do not show hidden files and folders" and "Show hidden files and
folders" are BOTH unchecked.

5. Deleted spybot since tea-timer might have been cause. No help.

6. Ran NAV scan. Doesn't even show that I have a virus. MS and Norton's
config fixes. Nothing. Ran MS Malware removal tool. Nothing. Ran Trojan
Remover, nothing.

Someone please help. Thanks!

Sorry about that. Please feel free to delete.

BTW, solution found under General:

The reason you cannot find it is because it's lin C:\Documents and
Settings\[username here]\Local Settings\Application Data\...\Identities...

Local settings is a hidden folder but you can type it in & press ENTER to
fid it
