Show Drag Contents

Since starting XP Home about 10 days ago I pull my hair since after each
reboot I cannot keep the 'Show window contents' item checked for dragging.
(Display/Appearance/Effects)

End up with the translucent rectangle which is unwanted. Any suggestions?

If you have a Dell, uninstall the Dell Media Experience from Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel. This is a known issue and you don't need
that software.

Yes it is a Dell, yes I removed the Media Experience as recommended, and
yes, all now seems well.
