Which boxes are checked in the "When new items arrive in my Inbox" section
of Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options?

Play a Sound (Work)
Brief chang the mouse cursor (maybe not work)
Show an envelope icon in the notification area (NOT WORK)
Display a New Mail Desktop Alert (Work)

I have no suggestions, I'm afraid. Well, perhaps one more: If you're using
Windows XP, right-click on the system tray and choose Properties. If "Hide
inactive icons" is checked, click Customize. Find the "You have new
unopened messages" icon and see if it's set to "Always hide". If so, you
may have found your problem. If not, I'm stumped.
