No envelop icon in Outlook 2003

Hi all,

I don't get an envelop icon in my Outlook 2003 when a new mail
arrives. I've read a few posts which state similar problems (yes, I
have server-side rules, yes, my new mails are moved to specific
folders, yes I STILL want the envelop icon to appear), but I haven't
found any mention of a good solution yet.

Anything?

Thanks!

If you're moving messages by rule, then it's best if the rule itself
produces the notification, either by the "display a Desktop Alert" or the
"display a specific message in the New Item Alert window" actions. The
processing of rules and the display of the envelope are, I believe,
asynchronous processes and the rules seem to fire most often prior to the
process that displays the envelope. If the rule goes first, there'll be
nothing in the Inbox for the envelope display process to notice.

Okay, I now added a rule to display a notification whenever a message
arrives.
It does show the notification for, like, two seconds, but still no
envelop icon. Any further hints?

Thanks!

I wouldn't expect the rule to show the envelope icon, only the alert.

I don't believe there is any way for you get the envelope icon if you move
all messages from the Inbox by rule. I believe something must remain in the
Inbox in order to trigger the envelope, since it appears to me the process
displaying it runs after the rules.

So I'll have to use the very inefficient and performance-costly
alternative of starting my own notification application.
Yuk...I really wish we could use a different mail client here.

Thanks for all your help, anyway!
