Hmmm, does this mean if I install SP3 I'll automatically (i.e., without the
ability to refuse) get Windows Media Player 11? If I want to stay with 10 do
I have to stay away from SP3? (I realize it may be too early to ask

I can't say whether this will apply to the SP3 install of WMP11 (but I can't
see why it won't), uninstalling WMP11 automagically rolls back to the
version previously on your system when it is installed stand alone.

I would imagine so; Yes.
I do not recall SP1 or SP2 offering selective installation of their
contents, and do not expect SP3 to start offering it.

Nothing else new. There are updated applications, which shipped long ago
as separate downloads, like Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player
11. And there are even some features that have been removed, like the
taskbar-based Address Bar option.
