Sharing & Security Windows Differ in WXP SP2

When I Rt click a Drive, click Share & Security, I get a Window w 5 Tabs
none of which is a Security Tab.
My friend is presented with a different Window w 6 Tabs including a Security
Tab. She has Do not Share this Folder and Share this folder choices as well
a Permissions, Caching, Remove Share and New Share buttons which I don't
have.

I much prefer the window she has. How do I get it and why don't I have the
same seeing as we're both using WXP SP2.

Would this window be different on an OEM CD vs the Retail Version?

How can one tell if an OEM version was used to install WXP or if my Retail
CD, which was given to the Co to install, was indeed used or not.

In System Properties, General Tab, I see a nbr but it differs with the Key
nbr I have. Am I comparing a Registration Nbr to a Key Nbr?

Thx for any suggestions.

Your friend has XP PRO SP2 and you have XP HOME SP2

(The splash screen on boot-up does not differentiate between the two after
SP2 is applied....)

Gordon! You've just rocked me outta my chair! Are u SURE?
I'm sitting here looking at my WXP Pro folder and CD Version 2002. I just
noticed the CD has Upgrade on it as at the time of purchase I was using
W98SE.
I left my CD with the Co that assembled my Computer 2 mos ago, to install.
I wonder if it's because it's an UPGRADE CD vs having the Home version
installed.
I'm in SHOCK!!

Try this.

Open My Computer
Select Tools
Select Folder Options
Select View tab
Scroll to the bottom of Advanced Settings
Uncheck Use simple file sharing
Click OK

Gordon, Your theory wasn't really out of the realm of possibility. There's
been a few things I've discovered that I'm not at all pleased about - as such
I've been suspecting they used an OEM version. I've just found though in
System Properties\General Tab that it does say WXP Pro and no mention of OEM.
I don't know but one would think it would say OEM in that Window if it was.

I'd love to get their Logo off that Window.

The file C:\WINDOWS\system32\oemlogo.bmp is the logo that is displayed. This
can be edited in paint or deleted.

the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\OEMINFO.INI is the support information text.
It can be edited in notepad but must keep the same format to display
correctly or you can delete it completely.

I've been having a problem with file sharing in XP and this seems like the
most relevant thread so far... here goes:
I'm running XP Home SP2. I have been unable to manipulate file sharing
permissions manually, and from reading this thread, understand that it may be
linked to the Home version rather than Pro. Here is my problem. I am trying
to access files placed in the shared folder. These are music files and I'm
trying to access them via iTunes. The error message I get is that there are
insufficient permissions. Both accounts that I'm trying to go between are
set to Admin privilages.

Any suggestions (other than upgrading to XP Pro.....)?

Thanks

You posted into an old, closed thread. Make a new post including all
details per this link:

http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

This way you'll get the attention you need.

In the meantime, here is my normal "network problems" blurb. If you need
more help after that, make your new post.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers, making sure to enable
File & Printer Sharing, and reboot. The only "gotcha" is that this will
turn on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If you aren't running a third-party
firewall or have an antivirus with "Internet Worm Protection" (like
Norton 2005/06) which acts as a firewall, then you're fine. If you have
third-party firewall software, configure it to allow the Local Area
Network traffic as trusted. I usually do this with my firewalls with an
IP range. Ex. would be 192.168.1.0-192.168.1.254. Obviously you would
substitute your correct subnet.

Then create shares as desired. XP Home does not permit sharing of users'
home directories (My Documents) or Program Files, but you can share
folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the
Shared Documents folder.

If that doesn't work for you, here is an excellent network
troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. Take the time to go through it
and it will usually pinpoint the problem area(s) -
