Can I re-install WXP PRO SP1 over SP2?

I am so tired of the problems that have ensued after I went from SP1
to SP2. I've had it.

I have SP2 installed now. I still have my original retail WXP PRO
(full) CD disk from MS as well as a retail CD disk containing SP1 on
it from MS also.

Since I had better luck with SP1, can I re-install WXP SP1 (in
recovery mode, say) without losing what apps & data I now have?
Or will the such a re-install be rejected because a later version is
now running?

Thanks

Uninstall SP2 if you must. But SP2 runs just fine on most
computers. But you can't install straight XP or XP SP1 over
SP2, you'll get a message about newer version.
There are hundreds of fixes in SP2, most deal with security.
You should determine what your problem is and fix that,
IMHO.

You may be able to uninstall sp2 if you kept the backup files when you
upgraded. Check in the add/remove section of your control panel first.
Otherwise you may want to partition your hard drive to save your data,
not your programs.

NO! You will create more problems, if you are even allowed to install SP1.

It would be easier if you were to list out the problems your are having with
SP2, since others may have encountered them. I, myself, have no problems
with my XP SP2 installs.

So to get to SP1 again you need to start over and reformat and
reinstall. On doing this I would suggest trying an *immediate* install
of the full SP2 CD (not bothering with an SP1 CD). Most of the trouble
people have with SP2 arise from installing on a half way corrupt
system. Most of the rest arise from not knowing the way around
firewalls; and some firewall is an essential

I could and maybe would do that - but I only have WXP PRO with SP1 on
one CD, plus a separate SP2 CD. That is mainly because MS is out of
stock on WXP with SP2, or so they tell me.

I will install WXP with SP1 'fresh', requiring me to re-install all my
applications. What with all my problems with SP2 the first time, I
will remain reluctant to try SP2 again.

Thanks for interest.
