Installation of Win XP SP2

I have just installed retail version of Windows XP SP1 (version 5.1.2600) on
my Toshiba Satellite 5105-S702 laptop.

I have to upgrade it to Win XP SP2 using a CD that I purchased in 2005 from
Microsoft - actually it's "Version 2002 Service Pack 2" according to the
System Properties info on the other laptop that I have it installed on.

Can I install the SP2 without first installing the updates/security fixes
released between SP1 and SP2 from the Windows Update site ?

In other words does SP2 contain all the updates /fixes released since XP SP1
version 5.1.2600 ?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thank you

Yes, Each SP includes everything up to it. SP2 has all of SP1 and the
patches up to SP2's release, and maybe a few extra.

If you just loaded the machine, you might want to load SP3 now and skip
SP2. It includes everything up through SP2 and all the mods to that
SP2.
If you encounter problems, it would be less of a loss than trying to
update a year from now when SP2 becomes unsupported.

Yes, just install SP2 and then any updates after SP2.
No need to worry about updates after SP1 was released as they are part of
SP2.

well, if i'm not mistaken
all the subsequent updates
after the release of sp2
are not rolled up into
one update called sp3.

you might want to check
and ask toshiba usa this
similar question since
sp3 is not 100 percent
acceptable by 100 percent
of the computers.

toshiba would be the
absolute experts to
advise you since they
have likely tested sp3
on all their machines and
know exactly how to
respond about your
laptop.

until them you might
want to turn off automatic
updates and you bits services
via admin tools and
see how long you can
go with out subsequent
updates.

You can install SP2 and then all post-SP2 updates or you can skip straight
to SP3. However, you will have to install SP3 manually as you will not be
able to use Windows Update website without SP2 already installed.
