Sharing local printers between XP and 2000

Ok, I am pretty experienced with Windows networking and sharing of devices,
but I am having all kinds of problems trying to share 2 locally attached
printers. I have a laptop with XP SP2 that has a printer attached, and a
desktop with 2000 and a printer attached. I have shared both printers, but I
cannot add either printer to the other machine. Both machines are in the
same workgroup, but I just cant figure out what the problem is with the
printers. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Chris,

Are you logging in to each PC? If so, with the same user name and password?
If not, is the Guest account enabled on the server?

There is a different person logged into each machine, but both their accounts
are members of the local administrators group. Hmmmm, honestly, I didnt
check to see if the guest account was enabled or not. They are machines out
in the field, so I have to remote control back into them. Would the guest
account make a difference?

I would focus on the issue of Windows XP Service Pack 2 as the print server

Then, make sure you can browse to the Windows XP machine in Explorer on the
Windows 2000 machine and that the printer is shown in the Printers and Faxes
folder.

Then right-click it and choose Install.

Do you get any error messages (if so, what)? Is it now installed in the
Printers and Faxes folder on your Windows 2000 machine?

Chris,

This working in the KB article concerns me: "Remote users cannot
authenticate by using an account that has a blank password. This
authentication is configured separately.".

Are you logging in to the Windows 2000 client without no password?

With Windows 2000, you're not using the Welcome Screen, so that's not an
issue.

No, we are logging into both machines with passwords. These machines in the
field wont be available to me again until next Wednesday. I will try some of
the suggesstions and then post my results.

Thanks!!
