share IE Favorites on one PC

Dave K.

Hi all,

I've never had to even think about this before, and now that I'm having to
think about it, I can't believe how hard this is. I've just had to set up a
2nd user account on my PC for my wife. Everything's fine and good...but
here's what I don't seem to be able to do:

Sometimes, while she's at work, I'll use the PC, using my own user account,
and I'll stumble across web pages I know she'd be interested in. I want to
be able to bookmark these sites as Favorites, but under HER user account,
not mine. I figured, easiest would be to set up a folder in my own
Favorites called "Beth's Bookmarks", and then put a shortcut to that folder
in HER Favorites folder under her user account. However, that only "sort
of" works. When I go into her user account to test it, the folder is there,
but it doesn't behave like a normal Favorites folder; when I click on it, it
brings up a display of IE shortcut icons in her browser. I can then use
those shortcuts to view the pages; but it's a bit of an unwieldy process.

I know this is a minor thing with all sorts of "workaround" ways to do it,
but isn't there a simple way to share a folder in Favorites between multiple
XP users on the same PC? I find it hard to believe there isn't!

Log in to your account.

Just go to C:\Documents and Settings\'HerAccountName'.
Right Click her "Favorites" folder and choose Send to -Desktop
Create shortcut. Rename it Beth's Favorites. Then when you find
a shortcut, place it in that folder.

This assumes both users have Administrator privileges.

If you want to "Share" favorites, then you can redirect your Favorites
or both accounts to a shared folder. This redirection can be done with
Tweak-UI ( PowerToys for XP). The redirection would have to be
done on both accounts pointing to the same folder. The folder would
have to be shared and accessible to both accounts.

what you must do is tricky....
there is of course a complicated way to do it... tell me if you want to try
it out.
For now you can do the following

Log on to your account (dave)

go to C:\Documents and Settings\BETH\Favorites

where BETH is the name of your wife's account and make a shortcut on the
favorites folder on your desktop.

You can do this by right clicking on the favorites folder>send to>desktop
(create shortcut)

Then when you find a page you want to send to her favorites grab the little
IE icon just on the left of the internet address in the address window in
internet explorer, and DRAG AND DROP that onto the shortcut of the favorites
folder you just made that's on your desktop.

That way the shortcut will be inserted into her favorites

Please tell me if this helped you.
