Setup hangs at time of "starting windows"

I am reformatting/reinstalling XP Pro. I changed the boot device to the CDROM
and booted off the install CD. Setup proceeds to load many files and then
gives a message at bottom of screen "Setup is Starting Windows". It then
hangs. I've disconnected any superfluous devices that might be sending
interrupts.

Can someone please advise me what to do?, thanks in advance..... Greg

Thanks Carey. The problem was overcome when I disconnected the D drive from
the IDE bus.
