Setup Error for iexplorer.exe process in task manager

I am trying to run a 3rd party testing software package that tests web pages.
In order for this software to work, it identifies the handle of the web page
using the iexplorer.exe process that's generated when you start IE. Now I
have just received a new computer, and somehow in the setup and configuration
of my new box, when I load IE, it runs within the explorer.exe process. Due
to this, the software that I use cannot establish the handle is needs to run
and it fails. Other people in my department still have IE load up in
iexplorer.exe. Does anyone know of a simple way to solve this. I believe
that there should be some option somewhere that I can use to correct this?

Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:) iexplore.exe

Then type your URL in the Address bar.

This doesn't solve my problem. Even if I open IE in this manner, the
iexporer.exe process is not opened within the task manager. Our IT
department has suggested that it has to do with the user profile and has
recommended that we create new profiles. We've tried this on one machine and
it solves our problem.......every IE window now creates an iexplorer.exe
process in the taskmanager and is allowing our 3rd party software to
recognize the proper window handles. We were hoping that there was a setting
or a registry key somewhere that we could just change that would correct the
problem rather than resort to creating new user profiles on all of our
machines.

-Thanks for your help
