Services no go!!!!!!!!!

Hi, having problems finding out why these services, set to automatic start
with windows, won't start:-
Auto Updates
Crytographic Services
DHCP Client
Server
Task scheduler
Themes
Windows Audio
Win Firewall/ICS
WZC
Workstation
I'm using xp home with SP2

I've checked and I'm getting a, Error 5 on trying to start Win Frewall/ICS.

I should mention that Sounds Property is showing No Device

Sorry to keep adding bits, in Event Manager it says...... 'The pipe state is
invalid '
against the services that won't start.
