services.exe terminated unexpectedly status code 128

Hi... after researching knowledge base I followed thru
with their insturctions that began with booting the system
into safe mode and then editing the registry.

Well, when i boot into safe mode i'm unable to login
because the error message "services.exe...status code 128"
and then the system reboots. This is the problem when
booting normally.

I hope no one has experienced similar but if you know how
do you work around the reboot issue so I can edit the
registry I would greatly appreciate the assistance?
(is this a virus problem?)

I would definitely use a virus emergency disk to double-
check.

If you have Norton, you should have a bootable CD which
will allow you to run a viruscan. problem being, if our
defs are out of date it's not goign to find it anyway.
