Service Pack Installation Error

Trying to install SP1a for XPpro. Errors out because it
cannot verify the integrity of Update.inf and wants the
cryptographic services turned on..which it is. Any
suggestions?

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. Then once SP1a
is installed, get - only - Q817287 from Windows Update and install it,
It is itself the cure; you should then be able to carry on with other
updates, and the problem will not recur
