Service Pack 4

Chris

I installed service pack 4 to windows 2000 pro, that runs
as a standalone machine. I installed the network version,
that you can download, as I only have dial up at home but
broadband at work. After install, no applications would
open up at all, depite what I tried, even the control
panel, and my computer would not open. The PC logged
people on OK, and this happened in all profiles. As a last
resort, I used the ERD. Now I can open applications, but
to open certain things such as office, you need to be a
member of the admin group!!. ALso I cannot set up the
internet connection, which mysteriously disappeared. I get
so far, and it refuses to let me input a name for the
connection telling me its a bad name and cannot be used.
All my outlook settings in each profile are there though.
I also canot set this up through IE, as I am told dial up
networking is not installed, even though it is, and one of
the services for dial up refuses to start, even though the
realted services for it are started.

Please HElp, as I am considering backing up documents, and
totally reinstaling. Wish id never installed SP4 now.

Hi Chris,
I had the same problem with connections after installing SP4, I went
into add remove programs and told it to remove SP4. After that my
dail-up connection returned by itself. I still have problems with proper
privilege level.
