Windows 2000 Service Packs 3 and 4

I have Windows 2000 running as a network platform and it has Service Pack 2
already installed. I want to install the other Service Packs but have
questions:
1. Do I need both 3 and 4 or can I install only 4?

2. Are their any known conflicts or complications from installing either 3
or 4?

Help! Thanks for your help!

1) Just 4.

2) That always depends on the software and hardware, but in my honest
opinion, sp4 is pretty uneventful.

Remember that you will want to (re)install the security hotfixes after
you've installed SP4.

The easiest way is to use Windows Update. Make sure you have a firewall or
some other form of protection before you connect the machine to the
Internet. If you enable the Automatic Updates option, they will be
downloaded for you.

Other than that, you can download individual updates from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

I would recommend that you select Windows 2000 and SP4 from the list, and
choose all critical updates that have not been superceded.

I don't really see it as "reinstalling" security hotfixes. It's more
like upgrading those patches which need to be updated from previous to
SP4 versions and picking up any SP4 specific patches.

This is all done automatically if you use WindowsUpdate after
installing the SP.

Most patches WON'T need updating since they will either be
incorporated into SP4 or they will be common to SP4 and previous
versions.

Either way, doing it by WindowsUpdate will remove the hassle.
