Sending Fax in XP is SLOW

S

Sam

Faxing works fine but it took me 18 minutes to send
a 6 page document. Can anybody help?

Not until you provide some clues.
Specify your configuration, including your modem.

My modem is a US Robotics 56K Win 1806 on Com 3. Configuration?? What excatly do you need to know?

You can stop there. USR has a buggy modem with modem identification and
echo.
Try this:

1. Delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fax\TapiDevices\<modem ID>

2. Open

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE
10318}\<modem id>\Fax

and change the SetupCommand from:

"AT&F&B1&D2V1Q0E0S0=0&C1&H1&R2&I0X4&A3S7=255" to
"ATE0&F&B1&D2V1Q0E0S0=0&C1&H1&R2&I0X4&A3S7=255" (Just adding E0 to the setup
command).

Use the device again...

Russ,
Thanks for your help! Where do I go to delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fax\TapiDevices\<modem ID>?

Its in the system registry; use the Registry Editor, Regedit.exe, to make
the necessary changes.

Russ & Hal
I made the changes in the system registry, rebooted and sent a 2 page fax and it took nearly
minutes to complete. Can you recommend anything else to check for?

Thanks for all your help
Sam

Nope. That is the only known fix. It has worked for everyone else I know so
far.

Hey Russ, In the Registry what should the Highest Send Speed be? Mine says 14400.
Is that value correct
Thanks in advance
Sam

I've never seen any fax modem even come close to 14400. That should be
ample.

Thanks for all your help. I'm going to install a new modem & hopefully that should
take care of the problem.
