Send problem

Bill

I can't send e-mails with Windows Mail on a new desktop computer running
Vista Home Premium, but I can send e-mails on a older laptop using Outlook
2003.

Both computers use the same AT&T Yahoo Mail account. Both have the same
e-mail settings. Both are running Windows Live OneCare antivirus and Webroot
Spy Sweeper antispyware.

An hour or so on the phone with Yahoo Mail help desk did not solve the
problem.

Error message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long
period of inactivity. Subject 'Test', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure (SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F.

Any ideas would be most helpful. Thanks

Bill

That type error is most often associated with malfunctioning AntiVirus email
scanning software. The appropriate fix is to uninstall all email scanning
software. Email scanning is not necessary, it is entirely redundant because
anything it might catch will also be caught be the resident file system
scanner, and all any of them do is cause problems like the one you're
seeing. Windows Mail is particularly sensitive to email scanners and a
recent Microsoft KB article suggests that Vista SP1 is not compatible with
any email scanners and may experience serious problems if one is installed
and activated.

This problem is caused by a recent update to OneCare.
To fix it, in Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart Windows Mail and try sending.

Thanks Gary. That did the trick.

After looking at the old posts in this thread, it appears you

Unexpectedly terminated the connection

Hey all,

I can throw a wrench into the works for people that haven't yet resolved this issue. I get the same error code when accessing ATT Yahoo email via Firefox on all my PC's and Macs (3 Macs, 2 PC's)! I have no anti-virus software running on the Macs.

This only happens when I'm logged into my primary account, and am trying to check emails for my sub-accounts. Checking email for the primary account that I'm logged into works fine. Once upon a time, this worked with no problem. ATT Yahoo support is of no help.

This sounds like an ATT problem to me, unless I have set up my web mail access incorrectly or something, but you'd think ATT support would have caught that. Any ideas?
