Can receive but not send windows mail.

All of a sudden I am able to receive but not send any Windows mail. I have
not changed any settings recently. I have AT&T DSL and the only anti-virus I
use is the Windows Live OneCare which I've had for about a year with no
problems. I do not see anything about email screening on Live One Care. I get
this error msgg:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Parker Hinson ', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Additional info: The failed email goes directly to the Outbox. They can be
moved to the draft folder and deleted.

No, no other security software. The only thing I've done to the computer
recently is about 2 weeks ago I did download the Google Earth program and it
had me download Java 6 update 7. I have no idea if that has anything to do
with it. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

The only other suggestion I have is to do a trial uninstall of OneCare,
just to see if it is the culprit.

Did your PC when new come with a time-limited version of Norton or
McAfee antivirus? Those can leave troublesome remnants.

Yep, OneCare was the problem. As soon as I uninstalled it my email worked
perfectly. Strange, I've had OneCare for almost a year with no problems.
Maybe some kind of update messed up sending Windows mail? I really liked
using Windows Live OneCare. If anyone knows of a fix I'd like to know. Gary
- Thanks for your help!

Thanks for reporting back. I now feel more confident in continuing to
offer my advice to uninstall OneCare when this particular error is
encountered. My guess is that a recent update to OneCare caused this
incompatibility to start showing up. Until recently, OneCare was quite
compatible with Windows Mail.
All you can do at this point is replace OneCare with a more
compatible antivirus. Of the free antivirus programs, the ones that are
known to be compatible with Windows Mail are:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
and
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.
