Selected message in newsgroup

When I return to a newsgroup, WM is pointing to the last read message. I
would like it to point to the first message in the message list. This is how
OE behaves. It is also how it works for e-mail messages.

Is there a setting in WM to get this to change for newsgroups?

For each affected newsgroup, click on that newsgroup, then click on
the Sent header to go to the next of the 4 sort orders possible for
that newsgroup.

That did not do it.

Let me try again. I read the first message in the newsgroup. Sort order is
set to sort by sent. Newest message on top.It is now marked read. I go to
another newsgroup. Later I return to the original newsgroup. There are 10
new message. The message highlighted when I return is #11 because it is
still on the last message read in that group. I want it to be on message #1
when I return. Clicking on the sent column does not change which message
that is selected.

There are 4 sort orders possible for each newsgroup. Have you tried
clicking on that header often enough to see all of them, in case you don't
like the next one either? I'm not sure that just changing the sort order
moves you to any other message, but it should change which one shows
up first the next time you enter that newsgroup.

Laura this a known bug.

The only way to try to avoid this, is to sync all your news accounts prior
to entering the newsgroup, even then if any new messages arrive prior to
entering the group the selection will be on the newest of the existing
messages.

Ok. I'll stop looking and just learn to like it.

How does WM compare to WLM? I remember trying it when it first came out but
since it kept crashing I uninstalled it.

You may get a faster answer if you ask in newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

You can find more of the people using Windows Live Mail there.

I am now subscribed to that group and will check the various messages over
there. I'm so used to OE that I guess I am reluctant to change programs.
Maybe I will try it for newsgroups and leave my mail in WM for a while.
