Message List Not Visible

After importing my old OE folders into Windows Mail, I find that when I open
WM, and select any folder, the list messages is not visible. The entire
folder structure is there, and the properties of each folder indicates the
right number of messages present, but the message list is blank. At one
point I found I could move my entire imported message folder with all its
subfolders into the Deleted Mail folder (which I do NOT clear on exit) and
then I could restart WM and it would open and show messages and work
normally. I could then drag the imported message folder back out of the
Deleted Mail folder and everything would be fine until the next time I
started WM. Now that has stopped working and I have no way to access my
messages other than going into Windows Explorer and opening them. I also
can't send or receive when WM is in this state.

One thing I noticed is that every time WM opens, McAfee scans some of the
folders (but not all of them) and then returns control to WM. I've tried to
turn off McAfee email scanning, and it indicates that it is off, but it still
scans -- might be the wormstopper, which cannot be turned off. I'm about
ready to Uninstall McAfee.

Uninstall McAfee. It is not compatible with Windows Mail.

I'm beginning to think McAfee is incompatible with almost everything, but I
haven't seen any other mention of this particular symptom. Is this a known
issue? Is my Mail Store likely to be corrupted and once I uninstall McAfee,
will I have to re-construct it?

It is impossible to predict whether your Mail Store is permanently corrupted.
All you can do at this point is hope that uninstalling McAfee makes the
problem go away.

After uninstalling McAfee go to View | Current View and make sure "Show All
Messages" is the only thing checked.

Thought you'd be interested to know that as soon as I uninstalled McAfee, all
my mail messages miraculously reappeared! Thanks for the helpful
suggestions. I've learned more than I ever dreamed of knowing about WM, and
even though most of what I learned wasn't needed, now I feel I'm ready for
almost anything it can dish out.

Thanks for following through with our suggestions.
I know it takes a leap of faith to uninstall one's antivirus.
