Cut & Paste - Outlook Express versus Windows Mail

I have upgraded to Vista Ultimate.
You have to run Windows Mail (WM) on Vista - you cant run Outlook Express
(OE).
With OE you could "cut" an image out of MS Word and paste it into the body
of the message.
You cant do that in WM and its a massive drawback.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
I have read the threads on "upgrading" to Windows Live Mail but is that just
the latest version of WM or something else? Also, it appears that there are
lots of crashes when people have done that.

In Wordpad (or Word) choose Edit menu - Paste Special. This lists the
formats on the clipboard that can be pasted.

What steps do you take? EG: Is paste greyed out or active but doesn't do
anything?

You are pasting in a HTML format message (Format menu)?

The image in Word was originally pasted into the Word document from a screen
"grab" using Alt/Print Screen then pasted into Word. That part works fine.

What you used to be able to do with OE was right click on that image in the
Word doc, select Copy then go into OE and paste it into the body of the OE
message.

You cant do that in WM and its very annoying. You have to paste the image
into another Word doc then attach it to the WM message.

What does the Paste Special dialog say? OE and WM won't paste bitmaps. Word is putting the bitmap on the clipboard in jpeg etc formats. Is word doing that there?

WM works and pastes on my machine.

Im running Word 2007 - there is no Edit Menu.

If I click on the Paste option then Paste Special I have several options:
MS Office Word Document Object
RTF
Unformatted Text
Picture (Windows metafile)
Picture (Enhanced metafile)
HTML format
Uniformatted Unicode text.

The highlighted default is HTML Format.

Why would these Paste options make any difference to the Copy command that
grabs the image from Word and holds it in the Clipboard to paste into OE
(successfully) and not into WM I wonder ...

The problem is in Word. When I paste a screenshot, then Copy I get what you
get plus gif, jpeg, and png.

Does pasting a screenshot, copy it, paste again overthe image, then copy
help as a work around.

Sorry mate, dont understand .... never had to do anything special in Word
when I wanted to copy ANY image and paste it into OE.

The problem is with WM not with Word.

Windows Mail allows pasting of text, but not images. You can switch to
Windows Live Mail which does allow pasting images.

Is Windows Live Mail a Microsoft or 3rd party product?
Ive read some threads on this site which suggest WLM crashes ... ?
Is it the latest version of WM or a different product?
Can you provide the web url to get it please?

Pretty much anything with "Windows" in the name is a Microsoft product.
You can download it here: http://download.live.com/wlmail
It's not a later version of WM, it is a different email program, but Microsoft
recommends it as a replacement for WM. It will automatically import all
your WM stuff.
