I Got A Problem

Running WinXP Home SP2

These will probably sound like stupid questions.
(hardly a first for me.)

MS has just issued 9 security updates. One of them is for Messenger.

I am downloading the rest ot the updates, but unchecked the one for
Messenger. Now I am having second thoughts.

I do not use Messenger. I do not anticicpate ever using it. I do not
want it, period. If I could completely get rid of it, I would.

I did whatever I could to stop it from ever activating when my new
computer arrived with XP installed a couple of years ago.. It is
disabled in the Services list under Administrator tools.

Now the stupid question:

If I download the security update for Messenger, will it activate
messenger? Seems to me it must do so if it is to install itself within
messenger. And I don't want to activate or launch Messenger.

And now for the second stupid question:

If I don't download it, does that leave potential holes in other areas
or parts of WinXP?

Would appreciate any advice.

No it wont. Mine remains disabled.

Part 2.... I would download it anyway. WM is in need of patching anyway.

Damn. That is what I call FAST action.

Thanks for that.

I take it you downloaded it, and it did not activate messenger?
