Installing Messenger 9.0 Beta Ate away my Hard Drive?!

Okay, this baffles me.

So, I had the windows live messenger 9.0 beta for a little while. All good.

I get an email a few days ago about how i've been invited for, what I guess,
is a new version of the 9.0 beta. All fine, but I ignore the email.

Two days ago, I tried to sign in on that computer, and Messenger tells me I
need to update. Okay, fine, I tell it to update.

Installation takes a while, so I decide to head off and do other stuff.

When I get back, the installation failed and my 90-130 GB of free space has
been reduced to 1 GB. This freaks me out a bit, so I delete some useless
stuff to get some space back and I try to sign into messenger only to have it
crash.

So, I try to get it to update again, while figuring out my space problem,
and I find out it's, indeed, the 9.0 messenger installation that's killing my
space! (I killed it and I stopped losing space.)

Since it didn't install properly, I can't uninstall it.

I did a disk clean up but there's still 30-50 GB unaccounted for.

I did a search for all files modified on the day of the installation, and I
yielded nothing of the missing space.

What'd the installation do to my space and how can I get it back!?

Log in to the same user id that you used to attempt installation of Windows
Live Messenger (beta) , go to Start|Run and type "%temp%" in the box, click
"OK". If there are unnecessary temp files displayed delete them, and empty
the Recycle Bin.
Do you have the Windows Installer cleanup utility installed? If not, you may
want to install it. If there is an entry for Windows Live Messenger (beta)
it may help you to clean up your failed installation attempt.
By the way, in the future please specify `Windows Live Messenger' in your
subject line since it is not the same as (Windows) Messenger.
