search window blank

Tricia

Hi I don't know what he has done but my grandson was "cleaning" up my
computer and now when I try to search for something by clicking on search
the window which comes up is blank with a grey panel at the left where
usually you type in the search for files info. I ran repair windows from the
cd i.e. booted from cd then when asked whether to instal or repair I ran
repair but it made no difference. any suggestions as to what he has deleted?

Windows XP Pro with all the updates
Thanks Tricia

Hi Tricia,

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

Reinstalling the Search companion

1. Login as administrator
2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK.
3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install.

This reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses. When you're prompted
for the system files, insert your Windows XP CD, or point to
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder (if you've applied SP1 or SP2
separately) which-ever has the updated system files.
