Search dialog box blank.

When I try to open the search dialogue, the tool bar opens
but is completly blank. Anyone have any suggestions? I
am completely unable to search my PC for files, unless I
go file by file --- I'm sure you can imagine it is a
problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks for your response but I have one question. I am
not talking internet searching here. Why does my local
search capability depend on the search utility being able
to get to the net for updates?

Second I have checked for the files mentioned on your FAQ
site and they exist already.

I do not get a "files needed to run search companion not
found" error, nor do I get the yellow triangle warning
icon. Search seems to open just fine, except of course
for the fact that there is nothing in the dialog box,
I.E., no fields and no text.

HI THERE:
I think i have the same problem as you do.and it's not
only in search function in XP. Do your XP have the same
blank control panel->user account? I ALSO WANT TO KNOW
WHY AND HOW!
