Inside programmes, File-Open, setting file search options

An example:
Say you open Word, CorelDraw or any other prog, and want to look for a
previously used file, in the File - Open search box is there any way
that one can set these search boxes to permanently always open in the
'Details' view ?
These search boxes always open in a less convenient view and I find I
have to change to detail view each time, even in two sequential searches
in the same session. I imagine it might be a windows setting somewhere?
(WindowsXPPro). Thanks C+

"There's no supported way that I'm aware of
to modify the default common file display"

There is also a hack of some sort available in that thread.
Basically replaces the common control library with some
other code. Which is hardly a practical solution. More
like a dangerous solution, if a later Windows Update
breaks something that was patched.

Thanks Paul for taking a look, you were cleverer in your searches than I
was ! I couldnt find anything! I Dunno why MS chose that display as
default, if you are searching for a file you need all the help you can
get! Yes I think I will wait till all updates are finished for XP
before trying a patch! C+
