why "search resultdialogue box" open appears instead of the folder

Using XP Home with NAV. When I double click a folder, instead of this folder
been open, the "search result dialogue box" appears instead as if I have
instructed it to open. This is the same for all folders and I just cant
install anything as I am suspecting the ethe pc been compromise. Anyone can
help, thanks
