SCSI Sony CRX-145S Problems

i have a sony crx-145s cd burner connected via an adaptec scsi card running
winxp. the problem that i have is that when i put in any type of cd in the
drive, it takes a long time to read the disc. sometimes nothing will happen
until i take out the dics. this is a recent problem that has only happened
in the last month. it has been working fine with winxp for about a year.
