scheduling full backups on a 2000 server

I don't get it. Why should it be this Friggin hard????

I go through the Backup wizard and specify a weekly backup of everything,
running on M, T, W, Th, F. I specify the time. I have a 4mm dat tape in the
drive. I see the damm task in the Scheduled tasks window. The time to
backup comes up and nothing happens. In the Scheduled tasks window, all I
see is under Results (0x8023)
What is happening here and what am I missing?????
I just want to be able to run an unattended full backup every weeknight.
Also, I don't want the system to care what tape is in the drive. I just
want it to write over whatever is in the drive. Can I do this?????

Rockitman, I would check that I have all the latest patches for the computer.
Assuming that you do I would look in event viewer to see if there are any
clues as to what is going wrong. If you find any errors maybe you could post
them here and someone could help you.
