Scheduling an automated backup

I don't get it.. Why must it be so damm hard to do something as simple as
scheduling an automated backup????
I run through the Backup wizard and specify a full backup of everything,
Weekly on Mon, Tue, Wed, Th, and Fri. I specify what time it is to run. I
look on Scheduled tasks and see it is there. When the time comes to run, I
don't see anything happening. I do see under results in Scheduled tasks a
code that says (0x8023) What the hell does this mean???

I just want to be able to run full backups every weeknight and I want the
system to NOT care what tape is in the 4mmdat drive. I want it to accept the
damm tape and overwrite what's already on it.
Why can't I figure out how to do this?? It should be a simple thing to do
via the wizard, No????

You're using the built-in windows backup? I think it's very picky about
what tape drives it supports. Try using a 3rd party tool for this (they
aren't very expensive). Or possible backup to harddrive and copy it to your
tape.

This is not an option nor does it answer my questions. The native backup is
not particular at all about my 4mm dat drive. He sees and understands it
just fine. I have to manually backup my data everynight and it works fine.
I just want to automate it using the native product. Please reply if you
have helpful advice and don't bother trying to tell me to buy something else.
Gees Matt, you have a MCSE under your belt and that's the best answer you
can give??
I guess Microsoft must just be handing these things out like candy on
Halloween.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding like an @ss. But just look at this guy's reply.
Like so many others in this forum. Too many people like to put their "2
cents" in, (like you), and not actually help a damm bit with their info.
So CD, why don't you do us a favor and go "burn" yourself.

Actually, if you look through many of these public forums you will see me
helping out several people a day.

Nobody is getting paid to answer your question, so why get upset if you don't
get the answer you want. YOU came here looking for help so you have to
accept what you get.

The Windows backup system is not an enterprise class solution and is not the
best program for doing nightly backups, that's why the majority of people use
3rd party applications. (thus what Matt was pointing out) You got all pissy
b/c he has his MSCE and recommended a different solution to your needs, but
to me that should prove to you just how unreliable the native backup program
is for a nightly backup routine. Have you tried his other suggestion? Do a
backup of your files to a folder on your HD first, and then backup that
folder to tape.

Oh, and grow up a little bit.

I should have just called my friend instead of wasting time with fools like
you CD.

He's an MCSE too. Been one for a long time. He immediately found this link
for me.

Matt, thanks for your link also. I haven't looked at it yet but it's
probably pointing me to the same place.

Yes, we all know that Microsoft's backup utility is not the best "whizbang"
thing out there but it does do what I was asking to do. I had an automated
schedule on this server before but it got messed up and I just couldn't
figure out how to recreate it.

So, you can see how one would get a bit pissy when the answer I get to my
solution is to go buy something else.

CD, you need to butt out of conversations that you have nothing to add too.
That will take some growing up though. Maybe one day you'll turn into DVD.

Actually mine was not at all helpful to you - just proving that i was an
MCSE - as you didn't seem to believe me. Glad you found a solution.
