With Windows XP you can just plug and play kinda speek, but windows 98 and
have to install each and every driver

Go to the web site of the maker of the scanner, and download and install the
Windows XP compatible drivers for that scanner. If it's an older scanner,
it might be hardware orphaned by Windows XP, and you can then use the
scanner for a paperweight. Some companies like Visioneer alienated many PC
users, by deciding not to write Windows XP drivers for models which weren't
that old, in an effort to force the consumer to buy a new scanner from them.
If backfired, and many like myself will never buy a Visioneer product again.

I have a Visioneer scanner to and I got mine ot work with XP but I had to

and it works ok for me

Re-read my post. I didn't say ALL models. I'm glad that you found a
Windows XP compatible driver for your model. Unfortunately, mine was
orphaned.

Try looking here if it's not listed try the forums it's all free you have to
registered thats how I got mine and your right I would never buy another

XP is no different, you must provide drivers for most hardware you install, it just supports a bit more on it's own because it
includes more drivers than 98. It's always a good idea to use a more current driver from the mfg even if XP has a driver for your
device.
