scanners and cameras... again

I've been told by you guys that when I plug in a usb memory stick with
pictures on it that the scanners and cameras wizard will not recognize it
because it is not a camera. Well I just found a PC with XP SP2 that does just
that. If I plug in any usb memory stick with pics on it I can download them
using the scanners and camera wizard. The question is why doesn't it work any
more on the PC that I want it to work on? And how do I fix it?

Just a guess since I haven't readthe posts you refer to, but it's most
likely the other machines have programs that recognize when a card, camera,
whatever is plugged in. In my case for instance, when I plug in my camera,
the camera downloader automatically starts and downloads my pics as soon as
I plug it in. That's not XP doing it though; it my camera's support
software that automates it.

with mine (digital camera) I got drivers with the camera, however I can
access it with either windows explorer as a removable drive, or with the
software to either copy the pics and or view them

Thanks for your reply, but I forgot to say that this is a business laptop
that it works on and that no camera software is loaded. The default scanners
and cameras program downloads the pics. I was told by you guys that the
default program is wiaacmgr.exe. So how do I get the computer that used to do
this and now doesn't to do it again?

thanks,

Gary

I don't know if this will help or not.

Some MSoft people have written an unofficial program to fix problems
with Autoplay. As such it is not on a Microsoft site, but it can be
found at
