Scanner not located

1 yr ago bought Hp pavlion mx75 (XP) and Hp officejet v40
(all in one printer, fax, copier and scanner). I have
never been able to use scanner because it says "can't
locate". When asked Hp, got 5 pgs of things "it could be"
and I can't do all that stuff. Is there a patch or
download that will correct the problem for me?

If you followed the directions correctly, your scanner should work. Read and print

Can't - or can't be bothered? My guess is latter, so you're looking for a
quick fix - if there was one, don't you think HP would have issued a patch?
Quite what this has to do with Windows, I'm having trouble fathoming.
