Fax is preventing spooler from shutting off

I cannot load my HP 2575 printer/scanner/copier because the print spooler
won't shut off. I've loaded patches, removed every printer and print file
remnance, but it fails because of the fax service.
I've deleted the fax from the printers/fax menu, and I don't even use the
damned thing (I do not fax from this computer). But nothing seems to work.
This is especially frustrating since the HP doesn't even have a fax build in,
and I don't need it yet it cannot progress without shutting off the print
spooler.
I'm afraid if I return this for another printer/scanner/copier, I'll run
into the same problem. Is this something unique to HP software? Should I
try a different brand?

Erm.... I'm not sure exactly what the question is.... no printer can be
installed WITHOUT the print spooler running.

From the command promot, net stop spooler is the command to type to stop is,
and net start spooler is the command to get it running again.

What is this Fax you speak of? Is it the Windows Fax Services.... or some
other third party software?
