Scanner not detected

Hello Help and Support
After reinstalling Windows XP and SP2, the scanner on my HP OfficeJet Pro
1170Cxi Multi-function printer is no longer recognized.
The built-in printer drivers in Windows XP include the 1170Cxi and the
printer function works properly, but the scanner is a problem.
The Scanners and Cameras Wizard cannot detect the 1170Cxi.
The Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel will let me Add a Device, but the
1170Cxi is not shown on the list of options and the driver on the HP CD for
the 1170Cxi is not appropriate for Windows XP.
HP tech support document h10025 says "... Windows Xp has built-in print and
scan drivers for many HP all-in-one products." and before the Windows
reinstall I had a scanner icon on the desktop and the scanner work properly.
I think I see a scan driver on my hard drive at C:\Windows\Driver
Cache\i386\driver.cab\hpm1170c.qpd but I don't know how to access or install
it.
What should I do next?
Thanks

Id imagine that youre device was connected at the same time xp was
reinstalled,
should'nt do that.....Also,how was xp reinstalled,thru IE,wrong...The best
way,
1st unplug all but mouce/keybrd,any other add ons unplug from
computer,install
xp cd,boot to xp cd (may need to adjust for this in the BIOS -boot
priority),then
at xp cd boot screen, select install xp,new copy, delete the partition, create
one,let
xp format and reinstall the OS.

Thank you Andrew,
but I don't have an XP CD.
All I have is a Restoration CD from Gateway.
However, this CD contains a file named HPOJSCAN.IN_ ,
but when I rename it to HPOJSCAN.INF the Hardware Wizard will not accept it.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Richard

I would think the first thing you need to do is remove the drivers,
remove the Printer from the PC. Reboot, Install the HP drivers, reboot
then connect the printer. (assuming its USB)

You can download the drivers & software from HP.... I would do that
first... and don't let XP detect and install the drivers, it almost
always causes issues with printers, scanners and cameras. Yuck! and
those are very picky.

I have no idea why he's telling you to partition your drives.....
sheesh sounds extreem..

fot the record, this is all IMHO.

Thanks, sseacrist, for the "all IMHO reply".

Unfortunately, if you go to the URL you mention and click on Windows XP you
do not find any drivers.
HP claims that all the required printer and scanner drivers for the HP
1170Cxi [and other printers] are provided within Windows XP !
Trouble is, I can't find them or find any way to use them; that's the problem.

Thanks again,
Richard

I thought in XP that if a device is hooked into your pc that upon startup
the system would detect it and draw the necessary drivers from your
preinstalled software.

use that URL your printers software & drivers are there, select XP and
bang there ya go. Also I noticed a specific area on that sight that
deals with using win XP drivers for your combo printer..... might want
to check that..

Dannie;
That only works if the driver is there.
If not, you need to go get the driver from the manufacturer.
