multiple scanners

Hi! I´ve got a document scanner visioneer w/paperport and HP multifunction
3110 with a flatbed scanner. But the HP appears in the device manage with
error code 38 and I not be able to scan wit it. So I´ve started to
investigate and I found a document in HP support zone saying: "multiple USB
scanners may not be able to work simultaneously in Win XP" and explains that
it´s because USBSCAN.sys provides by Microsoft cannot be used by more than
one scanner. The only solution is disconnect one scanner, reboot the PC and
connect the other scanner. This is annoying because maybe during the day I
need to use the visioneer scanner to scan lot of pages and cards and then use
the flatbed scanner from the HP printer to scanned somethig from a book and I
MUST to disconnect and reboot. ANNOYING. Any solution? Is Microsoft working
around this?

Doubtful - nor would anyone in a peer-to-peer newsgroup be able to tell you
for certain in any case...

Your best solution - buy a single scanner with all the features you need and
Vista compatibility for future uses.
Flatbed with sheetfed tray, etc, etc. You'll save desk space, be able to
hock the other two scanners to a couple of people to get back some of your
money and likely come out with a better product than either of your current
scanners.

Sorry I cannot tell you how but when I first got this XP PRO system I had a
multifunction machine and a stand alone scanner and I could use either
without rebooting. This is a FACT: its possible. Have removed scanner as it
was no longer needed.
