scanner/imaging device problem

I have an epson perfection1250 scanner which has worked fine for 2 years or
more. This past week it gives the message 'other programme using or check
connections'. All my connections are fine, I have uninstalled-reinstalled
several times, no joy. In device manager it is showing at the bottom under
'unknown'. If I open scanners and cameras there is nothing in there. From
that folder if I click on 'add imaging device' nothing happens. I have
connected and installed the scanner on my 'oldish' laptop (also running XP)
and it works fine. I have uninstalled my webcam (which was also in
'unknown'). Can someone please help. I realize the problem is probably with
my pc and something to do with imaging device not working but I really don't
know where to go from here.

Try inserting the CD for printer then go through scanners and cameras when
you click on add device diret it to the CD to do the install but cd must be
in the CDROM drive first. You may have to browse the cd from scanners and
cameras to get scanner drivers works almost everytime.

Good luck

that was quick! I will try that. I need to reinstall scanner first, I'm in
the process of yet another 'chuck it out and try again'! I forgot to mention
as well, I've tried all my different usb 'sockets', the problem isn't there.
I will keep you informed. I am a pc novice, I presume when I insert my epson
R300 printer cd, I need to exit then open scanner and camera's from control
panel and I think you say to click on 'add imaging device' in the top left
corner? When I have tried that, nothing happens - it won't open? Sorry to be
a nuisance but if I have got your instructions wrong, could you put me right?

I have just reinstalled scanner and software....still the same! I have done
what you suggested, put the printer cd in the drive, opened 'scanners and
cameras' and tried to click on 'add imaging device' but it still does
nothing...won't let me in! So theres obviously something wrong there?
