I have an on going problem with my scanner not working. I know its not the
scanner because it works fine on other pc's. But has anyone any ideas why if
I open 'scanners and cameras' from control panel why nothing happens when I
click the top left corner 'add imaging device'?

Please help us to help you. What brand and model scanner is it? Has it ever
worked on your computer? Have you installed the correct Windows XP for it?
What operating system is running on the other computers it runs on?

Sorry, I omiited the word "driver" here. The sentence should read "Have you
installed the correct Windows XP driver for it?"

Thanks for the quick reply! Its an Epson Perfection 1250. Yes, it has worked
for a couple of years but suddenly stopped with an error message 'another
programme may be using it or its not connected properly'. I am running XP on
this pc and other pc's that it works on. Thats why I think its a problem with
my XP 'scanner and camera' wizard. When its installed it shows in device
manager at the bottom under 'unknown', but also as working properly.

I presume so because it worked before. I have also been on the epson website
and downloaded the updated driver....no joy!

Did you install the software before connecting the scanner.

There full instructions on installing the scanner in the link.

Ken,
I have a "me, too" situation. My USB connected scanners and cameras
stopped communicating with my Windows XP SP2 system. They show up as
"unknown" devices, clicking on the "Add an Imaging Devide" causes no visible
action at all (no errors, no anything). At least two of the devices, a
Visioneer flatbed scanner and a Nikon slide scanner are WIA compatible. I've
run utilities from the vendors, re-installed drivers, devices say "are
working properly", but they aren't and are showing up as unknown. Any ideas?

Hi, I also have the same problem with an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner, and a
CanoScan LiDE 70 scanner, which have the same problems as the ones listed
above. Espon support have been unable to help and Canon seem to have an
allergic reaction to replying to support emails... Any ideas what could fix
this? I have installed the latest drivers already.

Fyi, I read elsewhere that there could be a conflict between scanner drivers
and IE7. Perhaps this is the cause?

Thanks

What problem? You have replied to someone else's post but haven't quoted
any of the previous text so there is no context.

This is actually a threaded newsgroup, and many use a newsreader to access
it, downloading only the recent messages so old messages in a thread may not
be visible, hence the standard to quote at least some of the message to
which you reply to keep the context.

Its best to create a new thread with your issue rather than post it as a
reply to another thread and include links or copied text from the other
thread if needed.

Good luck.
