Scanner Driver Issue

Looks like, from reading the posts, I'm not the only one with this problem.
I just recently installed a new computer running WinXP Pro after having
previously used a computer that had Win98 on it. Several years ago, I
bought a CanoScan N670U (Canon) scanner and, when I ran the driver for it on
the Win98 machine, I had no problems. Now that I have XP Pro, I have been
trying to run the XP driver for my scanner that is on the Canon web site.
So far, my efforts have not met with success. I do exactly what the driver
instructions suggest--I unplug the scanner from the computer, log in as the
administrator, try to run the driver and nothing happens from that point
forward. My computer doesn't prompt me to reconnect the scanner and
registers no recognition that the scanner even exists. I have contacted
Canon tech support by e-mail and they have tried to help me, but their
suggestion to add the scanner by means of the Add New Hardware Wizard didn't
help. If anyone has any information on how I can resolve this problem,
please let me know. Thanks!

Does the scanner appear in device manager
as a ? Chris or other? If there is a ? in there
something to do with USB. (is the scanner USB)?

It might be under imaging devices in device manager.

This usually means, something is waiting for the drivers for it to be
installed.

Click on it, click on the driver tab, and select update driver. Did the
install file install the files for the
scanner on the hard drive?

(Something like C:/canonscanner)? If it did
(I use the Canon D646U scanner, and the install file
made the above folder on the hard drive). I had to
do the above and point it to the canonscanner folder
before the scanner was up and running.

Hope this helps
