XP Home SP2 will not recognise scanner

A Canon CanoScan FB620P scanner was working fine under SP1. Not recognised
after installing SP2. Downloading the latest driver from Canon hasn't
helped. Cannot locate installation CD to re-install. Scanner will operate
fine when opened directly from CanoScan utility, however I need it to work
from within Photo Impact image software. Windows Scanner and Camera
Installation Wizard only offers options to install a camera, no scanners.
All help appreciated.

Reboot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete/remove ALL instances of
the scanner, reboot, Windows should re-detect the hardware and install
drivers.

Thanks, but it doesn't appear at all in Device Manager. What else can you
suggest?

Try starting the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and see what
happens. The service can be started from the Services Management
Console or from a command prompt by issuing:

net start stisvc
