Scanner & Camera Wizard

L

Liz

Hi there,

Running XP Pro SP2

I have a couple of desktops on my network on which the NAUGHTY USERS set up
Kodak EasyShare software! I know it breaks MS Scanner & Camera Wizard,
which is all I'll use. After removing the Kodak software, I still cannot
get Scanner and Camera Wizard to work.

Does the EasyShare software remove the wizard program? What is the program
name? How can I fix it? Argh!!!

Thank you so so much, this is really driving me up a wall......

Here's everything that I know about the Scanner and Camera Wizard. Read on
see if anything helps.

Get pictures from camera or scanner option is missing from a pictures
folder.

First, make sure that your scanner or camera is connected to your computer
and turned on.

Second, make sure that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is set to
Manual or Automatic and that the service is running.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click: Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) |
Under Startup type set to Manual or Automatic | Click Apply |
Click the Start button to start the service | When started click OK |
Close Services.

To test a camera or scanner

1. Open My Computer.
2. Locate the scanner or camera, right click and select Properties.
3. On the General tab, click the Test Camera or Test Scanner button.
This will perform a diagnostic test to confirm that the device is installed
properly.

• You must have a camera or scanner installed and connected to your computer
to view properties.
• A message will tell you if the scanner or camera completed the test
successfully.

This is the message...
Your imaging device successfully completed the diagnostic test.

Tip from Steve Winograd
[[First client's computer with XP SP 2: The Scanner and Camera Wizard
didn't run automatically when she connected her digital camera.
Solution: disable the Real Player update scheduler in Msconfig and kill
the running process.]]

There are several ways to start the Scanner and Camera Wizard.

To start the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
1. Open a Pictures folder, like My Pictures.
2. In the left pane, click Get pictures from camera or scanner.
3. The Welcome to the Scanner and Camera Wizard page opens.

If the WIA service is disabled or not running or if your scanner or camera
is not connected to the computer and turned on, you will not see the Get
pictures from camera or scanner option.

To start the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
1. Open Control Panel
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware
3. Click Scanners and Cameras
4. Double-click the icon for your scanner or camera.
5. The Welcome to the Scanner and Camera Wizard page opens.

If the WIA service is disabled or not running or if your scanner or camera
is not connected to the computer and turned on, you will not see your
scanner or camera in the Scanners and Cameras folder.

To start the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
1. Open My Computer
2. Double click your scanner or camera.
3. The Welcome to the Scanner and Camera Wizard page opens.

If the WIA service is disabled or not running or if your scanner or camera
is not connected to the computer and turned on, you will not see your
scanner or camera in My Computer.

To start the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: wiaacmgr in the box and Click OK
4. The Welcome to the Scanner and Camera Wizard page opens.

If the WIA service is disabled or not running or if your scanner or camera
is not connected to the computer and turned on, you will get this error
message...
---------------------------
Scanner and Camera Wizard
---------------------------
The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera.

Please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the
computer. If the computer still cannot detect the device, open Control
Panel, click Scanners and Cameras, and then click Add Device.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

wiaacmgr.exe is the Windows Picture Acquisition Wizard.

wiaacmgr.exe live in these two folders...
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

A scanner will work perfectly well with a program like Paper Port with the
WIA service not
running.
