Fixing scanner & camera wizard

L

Liz

After installing Olympus camera software, I cannot get scanner & camera
wizard to run.

If I try to start the Scanner & Camera Wizard, I get an error message that
the scanner or camera cannot be detected, even when I plug in another card
in a card reader. Olympus' software, however, offers to run to read the
card...

How do I restore the associations so that I can use S&C Wizard again??
Thank you.

Likely it's a driver related issue. Some digital imaging devices install a
Twain driver which in some cases is incompatible with XP's native
"Scanner & Camera Wizard (Wiaacmgr.Exe).

Sorry, should have been more clear - I'm not worried about the camera
anymore (you're right about the driver issue so I bought a card reader
instead).

I want to be able to use the Scanner & Camera Wizard with a card reader. On
another desktop, it's on the autoplay menu when I plug in a removable device
with photos. This computer doesn't even get the autoplay menu, just the
olympus software. If I try to manually start the Scanner & Camera Wizard, I
get an error message that a scanner or camera cannot be found.

Then what's happened is the Autoplay handler for the Card Reader has
been locked/set to the Olympus application. Using Explorer you should
be able to Right Click the Reader's Drive Letter and take Properties.
Once the details box opens, you'll see a TAB marked Autoplay. Using
this you can redefine actions to take on certain types of data.

That will work in the autorun situation .. If that doesn't fix the whole
problem, click Start, Run, type in msconfig, press enter, and go to the
Services Tab. Check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft Services" and look
for one that might be camera-related, or which has the same name as the
program in it. If you find one, uncheck it, click OK, and restart the
computer. Upon restart you will get a message saying blah blah .. you are
using ms config tool for troubleshooting, there will be a checkbox .. make
sure it is so you don't recieve that msg again, or you could get annoyed
clicking it each time without reading it... Try running the wizard again.

I'm having the same problem with my Sony CyberShot. It worked well for a
long time. Now my 'search' can't even find the scanner and camera wizard and
I don't know how to reinstall from my XP disk. Help.
