Scandisk keeps running

Ever since I installed XP SP2, scandisk always runs when I start off my
computer, despite the fact that I've shut it down properly. Is there anyway
to avoid this ?

It would also not hurt to run a diagnostic on the hard drive. Download
the diagnostic utility from the hard drive mftr.'s website. You will
create a bootable floppy or cd with the file you downloaded per
instructions on that website. Boot with the media you created and do a
thorough test of the drive. If it fails any physical tests, replace it.
