Scan disk won't run!!!!

When I try to run scan disk after reboot I get the message
"can't open volume for direct access".
What is causing this lockout of my system?
Could this be caused by a trojan or worm?
I have scanned my system for these things and my pc is up
to date and set up with norton corporate edition 8.0 anti
virus. I also run zone alarm pro as my firewall. This has
just started doing this and I thought maybe it was the
sasser thing but the scan say's no.Any one have any ideas
as to what might cause this?

Go to run, type:cmd in cmd type:CHKDSK C: (read only),see if it
will at least go this far,if ok,you can retry:CHKDSK C: /F then type:EXIT
restart computer. You can also boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter for pass-
word, then type:CHKDSK C: /p Yes /p,or type:CHKDSK C: /R Type:EXIT
when thru.

Hey thanks for the help. However, it did not work.
I tried running the read only chkdsk and that worked fine.
when I tried to run the ( /F ) fix option it gave me this
message, "the type of file system is ntfs. cannot lock
current drive.
chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.
would you like schedule thisvolume to be checked the next
time the system restarts <y/n> "
I selected y and then typed exit, then rebooted the pc.
After reboot nothing happened, so I went into my pc tools
and tried to run it again. after restart I got the same
origional message. Could someone be running some type of
hack on my pc? I even tried to boot with the xp pro disc.
I am lost on this one. I did install more ram a couple of
months ago, but it has worked fine after that untill
now.I have 1.5 gig of ram and all the test I have run say
it's fine. all in all my pc runs great but this volume
lockout thing really bothers me. I like to run scandisc
from time to time just to check things out.
