Saving Sent Faxes

C

CattJelly

Hi I've got to save and/or move sent items to a new PC. I
notice that all my fax addresses are saved as a part of
Outlook Express but experts in OE say that Fax has
nothing to do with that program. Please tell me the
proper way to save the sent items so I can transfer them
to the new PC.
Thank you very much,
CattJelly

If you want to save the sent items in the sent items folder in the fax
console, go to sent items right click on the faxes that were sent, choose
"save as" on the drop down menu and save it to a place you can find it.

Yeah, thanks anyway. First of all you can only do it one
at a time. You can't click on a bunch and transfer them
to a folder. I wonder why????? Second of all even when
you save them the fax program on my new PC which has XP
as well will not recognize them. I wonder why?????
Third of all....the fax program in my new PC (with xp)
has Import and Export when you click on 'File' pull down
yet its not on my old PC (with xp) I wonder why????
Thanks Microsoft....they are incapable of making anything
easy.

Faxes you have received are automatically archived in the Fax Console's
Inbox and faxes you have sent are archived in the Fax Console's Sent Items
Folder. You can easily access and save these folders from Windows Explorer.
The default location of these folders is:

<drive>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\MSFax\

Simply copy their contents into the same folder in a new installation.

Hp recently "recovered my Hard drive, reinstalling XP Home. XP Fax exists and
successfully receives faxes. But I can't find the folder mentioned below by
Russ. In fact there is no application data folder under all users or
anywhere else on the drive.
Any thoughts?

From fax console go to "tools", then to "fax configuration", then choose
archive tab, there is the path to the folder.

I found the folders and stored faxes. Is there a way to add new folders
that will be seen in the fax console. That way I can drag messages I want to
save to appropriate folders.(doing this from explorer isn't very practicle
since none of the fax id info is in explorer.
Thanks

Russ,
I really appreciate your helpfulness.
I also have office 2000 on my computer. I have but don't use Outlook 2000.
I have no desire to use it for email, but would use it for faxing if it
would solve my folder storage problem.

Would it?
If so, how do I go about using outlook to send and receive faxes (remember,
I have XP Home and am presently using XP Fax).

If I start using Outlook will I still be able to access faxes previously
sent and received with XP Fax?
Thanks

Outlook won't help with Windows XP Fax because they eliminated routing
incoming faxes to Outlook starting with Windows XP. You can only send from
Outlook.

Thanks again Russ. Should I be looking at a 3rd party software? If so, are
there any recommended that don't cost a lot.

Probably. I can barely keep up with Outlook and XP Fax so I haven't had time
to look into any of the third party offerings.
