SAVE MY MARRIAGE!

My husband's computer's mouse was scrolling in a jerky fashion while in IE7.
I tried some adjustments, but nothing worked. The last troubleshooting
recommendation was to uninstall and reinstall the program. Well, when
running the Windows XP Home Edition (SP2 downloaded), I cannot get back into
the system to reinstall the software. Now the mouse no longer works, the
keyboard (wireless along with mouse) only works for emergency functions such
as booting into safe mode. However, when I boot into safe mode and Windows
XP starts, it takes you to the Log In box and the mouse nor the keyboard will
function to click OK. There is no password set. There is also no
administrator account set up. I have plugged in wired keyboards and mouses,
but they do not work to get past this screen. Can anyone help??? I am to
the last resort of reinstalling Windows XP, but fear losing everything!!!
THANKS!

I will suggest:

1. Turn of your computer.
2. Plug in the wired Keyboard and Mouse and turn on the computer.
3. You need to check your Keyboard and Mouse before booting into safe mode
that are they working or not?
4. When you turn on the PC all the 3 lights should be blink once and Num
Lock should remain ON by default. Further, you can go into BIOS (by pressing
DEL or F2 or whatever required) to check if your keyboard is OK. Meanwhile,
you should load "BIOS Default Settings".
5. Boot into Windows normally first. In the process of loading try pressing
CAPS LOCK ON and OFF to check if it only hangs when Windows load. On the
Welcome Screen, see if your keyboard works by pressing TAB key (even if your
Mouse is not moving). If not then try safe mode.

let us know!

It's probably not a hardware problem if it is what I think it is... ;)

It just LOOKS like a hardware problem.

Thank you so much for your reply! I was not able to get to the problem, so a
local computer shop has it. Pray hard!

Thanks for your reply, Galen. Why is it a hardware problem when software was
deleted? Do you mean the mouse action prior to my attempt to repair it or
because of the failed repair attempt (just trying to learn).

Thanks for your reply. I did try a febile attempt much like your suggestion.
We gave up and took it to the repair shop. I appreciate your time in
posting and let's hope for good results!
